Hi,

Need explanation for the below one ....

For a locally managed tabelspace, the dropped segment is changed to a Temp. Segment, to prevent bitmap from being updated.

Always post the reference (preferably a link) where you read this.

To drop a segment in LMT, Oracle has to make several things among them update several tables of the dictionary and update bitmap in the datafiles that indicate which blocks are used and which ones are free.
It cannot do all of this at the same time, so it starts to invalidate the usage of the segment converting its type to temporary segment, then it has time to do the rest of the job as no one else can access this segment.
