The new points system on the OTN forums is well cool. I have two accounts (I won't explain why). JohnWatson used be a "guru" but is now an "elite". JohnWatson2 used to a "pro", but is now a level 7 "whizz". I see that EdStevens (who also, I am always glad to see, spends some time here) is a level 16 "superhero". Go, Ed!

On a lighter note, if OraFAQ has a point system, it might need a special data type to avoid numeric overflow error to store Michel's points. Just kidding, I hope Michel had a good day at work Smile

I like the way OTN created names for those levels; sounds like some RPG.

However, in my opinion, those point systems aren't really fair. If you are allowed to give someone +1 point, it would be OK if you were allowed to give him -1 as well.

And that too when a point is given anyway just for posting.

I like the idea of negative points. For example, if someone (even me) makes a sarcastic comment suggesting that an OP is a useless lazy sloth who could simply switch on his brain and read a manual, he should have points deducted. And of course the sloth should be given the points in compensation for the mental anguish.
