Please post an 8-bit graphic image of the error panel, or transcribe the error code and error message into your reply.

You said in your first post "the error(can not open page) shows to me". Please tell us the error code and the exact error message.

Is this the first form that you have run?

Look at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/web.1012/b14032/appA001.htm#CHDDABGJ which has a pointer to ORACLE_HOME/install/portlist.ini

Mine contains:
Oracle Developer Suite HTTP port = 8889
Oracle Developer Suite JMS port = 9240
Oracle Developer Suite RMI port = 23910
Oracle HTTP Server Diagnostic port = 7200
Reports Services bridge port = 14011
Reports Services discoveryService port = 14021

What do you have in yours?

Sorry to take so long in fixing your problem but I hadn't installed Forms 10g until last week. And until I had to suffer the same problems as others I didn't have to correct answer.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools -> Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings, Advanced, and in Exceptions add the prefix for your local machine (for example, ';mypc.*') to the end of the list.

The name 'mypc' should have been created in the 'tnsnames.ora' file during the Forms 10g installation - check it.

This will fix the problem of the form not opening when it is started from within the Forms Builder.

David

So, OC4J is started. Did you go to Internet Explorer - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced tab - Security section - "Allow active content to run in firles on My Computer"?

Mr.Littlefoot,

It is perfectly working now.
How can I run the same form without opening the form builder? I mean through IE.

I have menu module program developed in Forms6i. I need to convert into 10g. I am getting the help from searching this forum. Is there any shortcut and simple way?

Thanks a lot

You'll need to install Application Server (Forms and, possibly, Reports services) and deploy your application on the web. Doing so, you'll be able to run it via internet browser.

As far as I can tell, there's no shortcut to do that. There are links to the documentation here; I remember I posted them recently, so - search the board or go directly to the documentation section of the Oracle Technology Network and find it yourself.

Go to 'Start', then through your Oracle Forms Developer sub-menu and select 'Run a Form on the Web'. It will invoke something like 'C:\DevSuiteHome_1\tools\web\html\runform.htm'.

Have good look at this file. You can create something similar to start your application or you could also just save the address that exists in your browser to your browser's 'favourites' and click on it to start your Form (but remember that OC4J would have to be running on your PC at the time).

Thanks Mr.David and Mr.Littlefoot.

Mr.David said

"(but remember that OC4J would have to be running on your PC at the time"

When I deploy the application to the clients (We have around 75 users), Is it necessary all the clients
also has to have OC4J running?

Application deployed on the web means that users will have to have an internet browser (MS Internet Explorer, for example). At the first use of the application, they should install Java Initiator and that should be all - no additional software of any kind is necessary (for example, you don't have to install any Oracle product on their computers).

They (users) will access the application which runs on Application Server and access data stored on the Database Server.

Thank you Mr.Littlefoot.

I have one final clarification in this regard. Atpresent Our existing setup is 2 tier architecture (Client - Server)which running Oracle 8i and Forms 6i.

When we upgrade it to 10G DS, will it work both database and Applications in one server itself?

For your information, our transaction is not much for time being.

Regards, ILANGO

It is possible to install both Application and Database server onto a single machine, but - as far as I can tell - it is better to install them separately.

I didnt see the name 'mypc'. Instead these are shown in the file tnsnames.ora:

# tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: E:\app\Administrator\product\11.1.0\db_1\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

IMZ350 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = imz350.ust.hk)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = imz350)
)
)

IMZ335 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = imz335.ust.hk)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = imz335)
)
)

Which name are you referring to?

And I couldnt find the exceptions part under LAN settings in connection.

[mod-edit] color removed.

I have a problem too!

I'm using IE 7 and when I tried to run form after opening OC4J, the browser closed and the following appeared in OC4J:

10/04/04 20:00:49 FormsServlet init<>:
configFileName: C:\DevSuiteHome_1/forms/server/formsweb.cfg
testMode: false

I have also enabled active content to run on my computer in the configuration but the same error occured

What is wrong!?

Thanks

I guess that David is talking about the "host" part.

What are your firewall settings? Did you allow pop-ups to ... well, pop-up?

Yes I did allow pop-ups.

What should I fill in proxy address and port then??
Is it TCP and 1521?

IMZ350 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = imz350.ust.hk)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = imz350)
)
)

IMZ335 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = imz335.ust.hk)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = imz335)
)
)

I guess that David is talking about the "host" part.

"host" <> "tcp" <> "port"

Quote:
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = imz350.ust.hk)(PORT = 1521))

However, as it doesn't seem to be your local computer, perhaps it isn't the main cause of your problems (or solution). What is? I don't know; forms run well on my IE 7 / Win XP SP 3.

I wrote above "LAN Settings, Advanced, and in Exceptions". There is an 'Advanced' tab between 'LAN' and 'Exceptions'.

Try ';imz*.ust.hk' in the exceptions.

I followed the steps that David specified at one time, but it still doesn't work.
I attached the errors I got when I ran my form test. Can you help me, please???

In the 'Exceptions' you do not type the 'quote'.

Also try running your browser with 'Bypass proxy server for local addresses' 'checked'.

The 'restore' feature of a browser typically does not restart the Forms session. You need to start Forms in a new browser session. I recommend that you start the Forms session by pressing the 'run' button from within the Forms Builder.

Remember to close all browser windows when you change any of its settings.

sorry to resurrect a thread started so long ago, but i am having a very similiar issue and the topic describes my problem.

I have Oracle Forms Builder 9.0.2.7.0
I can modified and compile my forms just fine. I can deploy to our webserver just fine and they run on taht web server fine.
but i cannot run the forms on my local machine. I started the OC4J instance
if i leave the "PREFERENCES --> RUNTIME --> Application Server URL" as is (set to default) then i get an IE window opening with a local URL and the main window just says "ORACLE FORMS". after a few seconds, IE closes and nothing further happens.

If I change the App Server URL to point to our UAT App server, then i get the Oracle 10g background and app loading, but it crashes with message that its unable to find my FMX. But i put the path in FORMS90_PATH in registry.

please help
